Volunteer at the Mercer Library

Volunteers in front of a thank you sign

A small group of dedicated volunteers help the Mercer Library running smoothly and increase our connection to the community. In 2017, volunteers contributed about 650 hours of scheduled time assisting our staff at the desk, helping to care for and maintain our library collections, and assisting library patrons. Other volunteers worked countless additional hours helping with library programs, facilitating exhibits and displays, and fundraising with the Friends of the Library.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Mercer Library, call us at 715-476-2366 or stop by to chat with Library Staff.

Here are a few ways you can support the library:

    • Board of Trustees
      • Trustees are tasked with ensuring the operation and financial health of the library. Trustees are appointed by the Mercer Town Board and commit to 3 years of service. Board members are dedicated to completing all short-term projects and protecting the long-term vision of the library and its role in the community.
    • At the service desk
      • A small group of volunteers help the Mercer Library run smoothly and maintain a robust schedule of operating hours. In 2023, volunteers contributed about 290 at the circulation desk, helping to care for our library collections, and assisting library patrons.
    • Friends of the Mercer Public Library
      • Our Friends of the Library support all of our public programs including Summer Reading Programs, Earth Day Fair, Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, Artist in Residence program, StoryWalk® signs, and local history projects to name a few. Many Friends also volunteer their time tending to our garden, fundraising for current and future projects, and advocating for the library.
