Is it legit?
From library director Teresa Schmidt: MyFreeTaxes is provided by the United Way in partnership with the IRS as a secure and free way to file your state and federal tax returns. The Mercer Library is referring people to MyFreeTaxes as a legitimate way to file your returns with no hidden costs and with the added benefit of access to a Helpline for questions. MyFreeTaxes is available nationwide with no income or age restrictions. It is designed for people to file their own returns.
The software is powered by TaxSlayer, which guarantees that returns are 100% accurate. Library staff are unable to provide assistance with entering tax returns or providing tax advice, but we believe MyFreeTaxes to be a useful resource for our library patrons. This is not a paid advertisement, and the Mercer Library has received no compensation for promoting the use of this resource.
